Adding ribbon buttons on dashboard is same as like adding buttons on the entity forms. instead of entity we need to create solution with application ribbon. you can follow the below steps to create.
Step 1: Go to setting and solutions and click on new solution button to create new solution. Enter all mandatory fields and save the solution. Now click on the Add Existing dropdown.
select the application ribbons on the from the list and save the solution.
Step 2: Now go to ribbon workbench and open solution. Add the button on the home section and publish the solution.
